Yes, I know. He looks weird … And that is even more bizarre when you consider that his voice is simply Johnny Depp’s. Despite the appearance of this strange reptile, you can easily be seduced by the actor’s mesmerizing and stunning diction which has already made the charm of some Jack Sparrow or a Mad Hatter in the past.

Anyway, I digress, I have the honour to introduce you to Rango, a chameleon in the middle of his identity crisis, who decides to run away from his calm and gentle status of “pet” to start conquering the wilderness, and especially the city of Dirt. Everything seems to look like an offbeat western, where violinist owls happily live alongside giant plastic flying fish (seen in a very intriguing first teaser earlier this month)!

To lead the whole animation movie, a great filmmaker of our generation, Mr. Gore Verbinski (director of Pirates of the Caribbean). We therefore expect sparks from the new collaboration between these two giants of cinema, especially when they are accompanied by a great cast with, among others, Timothy Olyphant, Bill Nighy, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina and Harry Dean Stanton.

Being a great fan of Bill Nighy myself, I am looking forward to witnessing his character, the supposed snake villain of the story. The actor recently revealed some facets of the character in an interview: “I play a very, very bad guy. I’m a rattlesnake and I am a gun-slinging assassin. I literally have a Gatling gun—I have a machine gun in my tail—so I can just spray the whole town. I can kill everybody whenever I wish. I’m brought in by the corrupt sheriff to sort things out. It’s quite cool.”. Hmmm…

That’s enough bla-bla, here is the first trailer of Rango which will be released in U.S. theaters on March 18 2011, followed by a release in France in April 2011.
