This is already the eighth collaboration of a long series between two great geniuses of the 7th art: Johnny Depp and Tim Burton.
And as it appears to be the trend of the moment Dark Shadows is a film about… vampires! But beware, nothing to do with Twilight. We are talking about the adaptation of a television series which was broadcasted between 1966 and 1971 on the American TV channel ABC. And it’s far from an unnoticed soap opera, with 1225 episodes which have made Uncle Sam shudder!
Johnny Depp interprets the vampire Barnabas Collins, main character of this supernatural soap opera. The main ideas and atmosphere of the film will of course be inspired by the adventures written by Dan Curtis, but the script was commissioned from John August, who is already the scenarist of Big Fish, and it is now being reviewed by Seth Grahame-Smith.
Anyway, the duo Burton/Depp will start filming in January 2011 and I have little doubt as to my vampiric preference between Robert Pattinson and Johnny Depp…
sounds interesting. Can’t help but notice that Barnabas is quite a thoughtful name for a vampire.

Seriously, I am going to be overly critical of Depp. I don’t think anyone can top Frid so he will be scrutinized every step of the way.
For sure this will be a cool movie to see. I’m a big fan of Dark Shadow’s and of Johnny Depp! He is such a good actor that I think he’ll probably be a great Barnabas. However, The real Barnabas (Johnathan Frid) should get some type of connecting part in the movie (I think). If it’s at all possible. Anyway, hurry and make the movie I’m going to be one of the first one’s there!!
I can’t wait to see Johnny Depp play Barnabas.I I have always been Big fan of Dark Shadows.I even seen when Ben Cross played him.He was so good at this role.But did see some old Dark Shadows too.Thanks to my aunt I came a fan when she showed she old version of show.
can’t wait to see Dark Shadows again. Johnny depp is perfect for the roll of Barnabas Collins, but Johnathan Frid will always benumber one to me. Hope they give him a cameo, I’d love to see him again
I look forward to this movie. Johnny is a good actor. I hope he takes this seriously and does not make it a joke(comedy). Fred (Barnabas) is a serious person playing a heartbroken lonely vampire. Do not make it a spoof joke.
Finally…looking forward to this! Don’t get all the twilight stuff! I just remember Barnabas….now that’s when a vampire was a VAMPIRE!!!

True I look forward to a return to Dark Shadows. I doubt I missed an episode when it was aired. But people please check your spelling when you write names of those actors and characters; the actor’s name is Frid not Fred and he played the part of Barnabas not Barnabus. I believe that Depp is capable of giving a serious rendition of the part. The ultimate weight lands squarely on the shoulders of the writers and the directors. It will be them that will determine how it will play out either as a serious rendition or a farce of what we remembered.
Get this show on the road already !!!!!! Love the original, and the 91 revival was Awesome… Damn that Gulf War BS interupting tv, and killing that show…. Maybe now we can get another series going…. Who’s gonna play Angelique?? Lysette Anthony was the greatest yet…
I’m skeptical. I am a huge fan of the original series, and in my mind noone can ever replace Jonathan Frid. He IS Barbabas. But, I just finished watching the revival series again, and I have to admit that Ben Cross was an EXCELLENT and handsome Barnabas. I am so sorry that they did not continue on with that series, it really was good. Joanna Going was terrific as Josette . What a beautiful girl and a good actress. (although I loved the original actress Kathryn Leigh Scott who played Josette Dupre and Maggie Evans)
I am not a fan of Johnny Depp. He has big shoes to fill in the role of Barnabas. We’ll see. I just can’t imagine them casting the right people.

I was a hugh fan of the original Dark Shadows, but I will be first in line to see Johnny Depp as Barnabas!!!
I am a bit dubious about this, i have all the original episodes of the series, and no one can top Johnathan Frid, I saw the 1991 series with ben cross, this show did not take off, and only 12 episodes made, people still prefered the original Dark Shadows.

I am so happy to see that there are so many of us out there.. so many of us die-hard original Dark Shadows fans! This is such exciting news. I’ll always be a loyal Jonathan Frid fan, but am sure that Johnny Depp will do a superb job of playing Barnabas Collins.
I was a “walker” during my highschool years…but u can “bet ur bippie” that I sprinted home to see Barnabas and Angelique every day! These days my heart is racing just thinking about Johnny Depp in thick eyeliner one more time. Kinky, huh? Just like every other obsessive Dark Shadows junkie! I can only hope this movie tops my alltime favorite vampire flick, “The Hunger” with Susan Sarandon and David Bowie. Cant wait to find out.
I loved the original Dark Shadows when I was in high school ~ and Johnny Depp will be wonderful in the role of Barnabas. I’m sure with Burton and Depp teaming up..it can’t be anything but a success!
